This simple, repetitive Readers’ Theatre or Play is great for beginning readers in Primary.  Children will love to learn vocabulary about Canadian wildlife and their unique sounds.  This Play or Readers’ Theatre could be used during Hallowe’en for it would give the students a chance to dress up in non-scary apparel.  Alternatively it could be used during Social Studies’ Canadian Provinces or with the Science unit Characteristics of Living Things.  Introduce the play with Mr. Martin’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear or White Bear, White Bear.  Masks could be made by intermediate students with a pattern, play foam or felt ahead of time. Tips for presenting, backgrounds and mask-making are included.  Cut apart a copy of the play to send home lines so students/animals can memorize their parts with parental help.  Number of students/roles easily adaptable to fit your class size.
